Management of multilingual events in the Energy sector

In 2017 LiT started a collaboration with MWH, now part of Stantec, World leader in Climate Solutions, Coastal resilience and Energy Transition. We had the privilege to play a game- changing role in the Energy sector and in the African Community.

We started providing translation and interpreting services for a colossal EU-funded project implemented by a consortium led by Stantec. This project supports The African Continental Master Plan (CMP): A Continental approach to Africa’s energy future. The CMP is designed to provide a strategic roadmap for connecting Africa’s five power pools (CAPP, COMELEC, EAPP, SAPP and WAPP).

Our incredibly skilled and adaptive Interpreting Team has interpreted at every meeting between the different pools and AU institutions, engineers providing technical assistance, EU experts and coordinators, providing linguistic support and overseeing the development of the whole process for the last 3 years.

According to our team, some of the major challenges have been:

  • Meetings were often organised at the last minute, and the preparation material was handed out as soon as possible, sometimes without enough time to study it carefully.
  • Extremely technical terminology was involved
  • Most trainers, speakers and coordinators were of African origin, speaking standard English, albeit with pronunciation unfamiliar to our ears!

All participants fervently followed every meeting with great engagement, giving the greatest attention to contents. Our interpreting team absolutely always rise to the challenge, showing indisputable personal and professional ability, professionalism and expertise.
